Sampling macrophyte and macro invertebrate densities in Shellharbour.
Together with other wetland scientists, I completed a two-day training workshop on constructed wetland management. We run through a range of issues associated with the construction, monitoring and maintenance of wetlands for a range of local government employees. Unlike previous workshops I’ve been involved in, this was a small group and involved some highly interactive field-based activities. Specifically, we spent some tiem in the wetlands discussing ways to document changes in vegetation and benthic macro-invertabrate populations. I was onboard as the mosquito expert so there was plenty of disucssion about the potential impacts of mosquitoes and mosquito-borne disease risk on managing local wetlands.
The Sydney Olympic Park Authority regularly runs workshops on wetland management. For more information, see their website. The next workshop is on the Application of Best Practice in Erosion and Sediment Control around Wetlands.
